The Kung Fu Kid

Just saw the new remake of Karate Kid with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

I enjoyed myself. I generally (not always) like a movie with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith looks like he's going to walk in his daddy's foot steps.

The details are very different the original Karate Kid movie, but the essence of the story is basically the same as the original.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. I walked away wanting to learn Kung Fu more than ever. I've wanted to learn. I suppose I shouldn't keep putting it off.

  1. To fu or not to fu...

I think screaming at the top of your lungs and running the other way is the solution to most fights.

  2. I taught TaeKwonDo Ginx. Martial Arts aren't about fighting...though there is that.

  3. I always here that in movies and from real people that Martial Arts aren't about fighting. But, we humans tend to be quite territorial and need to find our place in a social hierarchy.

In what ways are Martial Arts not about fighting?

Is it the meditative nature that comes from practicing the moves? I know one short Qi Gong move that I do for meditation. I do feel calmer sometimes after doing that.

I've been lifting weights lately-- that is meditative for me, too.

And while I want my strength training to make me healthier, I do want to know that my body is shaping up to where I can stand up to someone if necessary. But I don't go picking fights with anyone.

Is that what you mean when you say Martial Arts aren't about fighting?
